Dormaa Ahenkro (B/A), June 30, GNA - The Dormaa Circuit Court has imposed a fine of GH¢ 360 on Adu Mohammed, a driver, for possessing 177 pieces of undocumented lumber.

Mohammed will go to jail for six months if he fails to pay the fine. Inspector Bismarck Boye Lartey told the court presided by Alexander Osei Tutu that, on June 14 the Dormaa Municipal Assembly's forest task force intercepted a truck driven by Mohammed and loaded with the lumber at Asuotiano near Wamfie in the Dormaa East District.

He said the task force impounded the vehicle on realizing that the lumber did not bear any marking nor was the driver carrying any official documents covering them.

Inspector Lartey said when Mohammed was interrogated he said he knew the owner but could not give his name. The court ordered that the seized lumber be given to the Dormaa Municipal Assembly to be used for development projects.

The court also remanded into prison custody Hannah Sakyiwaa, a farmer at Awiakrom for allegedly defrauding purchasing clerk of GH¢ 4000.

Inspector George Kumah told the court the complainant was a cocoa purchasing clerk at Krakrom, near Nkrankwanta.

He said on December 10 last year, Hannah approached the complainant and told him that her husband had sent her to collect the amount as an advance payment for the supply of dried cocoa beans by the husband.

Inspector Kumah said the cocoa purchasing clerk agreed and paid the amount demanded, but he neither saw nor heard from Hannah Sakyiwaa or the husband till February 26 this year when he bumped into Hannah and confronted her.

When the clerk asked her what had happened to the promised cocoa beans, Hannah feigned ignorance, pretending as if she had never discussed or taken any money from him.

All attempts to trace her husband after her arrest have proved futile, Inspector Kumah added.
